Biography
Lucie Flek is an Associate Professor at the University of Marburg, leading the newly formed research group on Conversational AI and Social Analytics (CAISA), which focuses on user-informed machine learning, mainly in language processing. Previously, she has been active both in academia and industry - she has managed natural language understanding research programs in Amazon Alexa and contributed to the Google Shopping Search launch in Europe. In her academic work at TU Darmstadt, Positive Psychology Center at the University of Pennsylvania, and University College London, she has worked on user modeling from text, and its applications in psychology and social sciences. She has served as Area Chair for Computational Social Sciences at multiple ACL* conferences, an editor of the NLP section of Frontiers in AI, and is a co-organizer of the Stylistic Variation workshops. Before her career path in natural language processing, Lucie has been contributing to particle physics research at CERN in the area of dark matter searches. Apart from research, her passions include mountain hikes, dogs, and metal music.

Biography
Karim Lekadir is a Ramon y Cajal Researcher and Director of the Artificial Intelligence in Medicine Lab at the Universitat de Barcelona (BCN-AIM). He holds a PhD from Imperial College London (UK) and was previously a visiting scholar at Stanford University (USA). His current research focuses on the development of data science and machine learning approaches for the analysis of large-scale biomedical data, including imaging, clinical, lifestyle, and mobile data. The software he developed during his PhD for cardiac functional quantification has been CE marked and commercialized by CMRtools and is now used in more than 250 clinical centers worldwide. He is the Coordinator of the following Horizon 2020 projects: euCanSHare (2018-2022), developing a big data platform for cardiovascular research; EarlyCause (2019-2023), which investigates multi-morbidity using experimental and data science approaches; and EuCanImage (2020-2024), which is building a federated artificial intelligence environment for cancer imaging. He is also the work package leader in the LongITools H2020 project (2019-2024), developing a mobile app for cardio-metabolic risk prediction based on exposome data. In addition, Karim is General Chair for the MICCAI 2024 Conference (Medical Image Computing and Computer-Assisted Intervention) which for the first time will take place in Africa – in Marrakesh, Morocco. He is an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging

Kamelia Aryafar is the Engineering Head of Retail Solutions and an Engineering Director in Google Cloud AI focusing on building Retail AI Solutions that empower retailers to transform themselves through intelligence from their Data. Prior to Google, Kamelia was the Executive Vice President, Chief Algorithms and Analytics Officer, and board member for Overstock.com , where she led the company’s analytics, data platform, technology, machine learning, data science, data engineering, and algorithmic products. Kamelia joined Overstock.com , after several years at Etsy where she worked with different product teams across several platforms to integrate analytics, ML and AI algorithms throughout the organization. Kamelia holds a Ph.D. and M.Sc. in computer science and ML from Drexel University and has published several papers in scientific journals. As an active member of the ML community, she frequently speaks at academic and industry conferences focusing on advancing the field of AI, ML, Technology, and women in STEM. Kamelia serves on several boards including: The JED Foundation, Initiative of Analytics and Data Science Standards (IADSS), Retail Management Institute at Santa Clara University, Overstock.com (formerly), and Women of MENA in Tech.
